Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi

Table Tennis NZ recognises Te Tiriti o Waitangi as Aotearoa New Zealand’s founding document and is committed to upholding the mana of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the principles of Partnership, Protection and Participation.

Policy 22: Team Uniform Policy

1. Purpose

1.1 The Table Tennis New Zealand (TTNZ) Uniform Policy aligns with TTNZ’s apparel sponsorship agreement and ensures that all athletes, coaches, and team managers represent New Zealand in a unified and professional manner. Wearing the ‘New Zealand Uniform’ is a privilege and fosters a strong sense of identity and pride whilst representing New Zealand table tennis on the world stage. TTNZ requires all players, coaches, and managers endorsed by Table Tennis New Zealand to comply with this policy during international tournaments, training camps and activities.

2. Definitions

2.1 The ‘NZ Team’ comprises of players (Junior, Senior, Veteran or Para), coaches and team managers who are selected to represent TTNZ in the following international tournaments:

  1. Olympic Games or Paralympic Games
  2. Commonwealth Games or Commonwealth Championships
  3. ITTF World Championships (excluding the ITTF World Masters Championships)
  4. ITTF-Oceania Championships
  5. ITTF-Oceania and ITTF Cup events
  6. ITTF-Oceania and ITTF Hopes Week & Challenges
  7. International test matches

2.2 ‘Endorsed individuals’ include players (Junior, Senior, Veteran or Para), coaches and team managers who are endorsed to represent NZ table tennis in the following international tournaments:

  1. World Table Tennis (WTT) tournaments
  2. Australian Veteran Championships
  3. TTA Tour events
  4. Any other ITTF and WTT events
  5. National Championships of ITTF member countries

3. Uniform Items

3.1 The full New Zealand Uniform comprises of apparel sponsor branded:

  1. Training and competition T-shirts (collared, or non-collared)
  2. Shorts and/or skirts/skorts
  3. Tracksuit
  4. Bag
  5. Towel

4. Non-uniform Items

4.1 Items considered non-uniform that need to be non-table tennis branded include:

  1. Socks
  2. Head or wrist bands

4.2 Items considered non-uniform that can be of any brand include:

  1. Sport shoes
  2. Sport specific equipment; Blade, Rubbers, Bat-case, Drink bottle
  3. Sports braces and supports, for example knee brace

5. Uniform Expectations

5.1 All NZ Team and endorsed individuals; players, coaches, and team managers are required to wear the ‘New Zealand Uniform’ of TTNZ’s apparel sponsor at ALL international tournaments including but not limited to the following:

  1. Olympic Games or Paralympic Games
  2. Commonwealth Games or Commonwealth Championships
  3. ITTF World Championships (excluding the ITTF World Masters Championships)
  4. ITTF-Oceania Championships
  5. ITTF-Oceania and ITTF Cup events
  6. World Table Tennis (WTT) tournaments
  7. ITTF-Oceania and ITTF Hopes Week & Challenges
  8. International test matches
  9. Australian Veteran Championships
  10. TTA Tour events
  11. Any other ITTF and WTT events
  12. National Championships of ITTF member countries

5.2 All NZ Team and endorsed individuals; players, coaches, and team managers are required to wear the ‘New Zealand Uniform’ of TTNZ’s apparel sponsor at ALL international training camps and activities endorsed by TTNZ.

6. Uniform Features & Cost

6.1 NZ Team
6.1.1 The NZ Team selected by TTNZ will be given a limited stock of official apparel bearing the NZ Team representative logo and/or fern.
6.1.2 This apparel is exclusively for the designated athlete, coach, or team manager.
6.1.3 Uniforms bearing the NZ Team representative logo and/or fern are personal items and must NOT be traded, exchanged, or sold. Uniforms not bearing the representative logo and/or fern can be purchased for the purpose of trading or exchange.
6.1.4 Any loss or damage to the uniform must be reported to TTNZ.
6.1.5 If a uniform is lost or damaged beyond repair, the athlete will be responsible for purchasing a replacement.

6.2 Endorsed individuals (not part of the NZ Team)
6.2.1 Any player, coach or team manager that is not part of a New Zealand selected team but is granted endorsement by TTNZ to represent New Zealand table tennis in an international tournament, training camp or activity (as per clause 5) will be required to purchase their New Zealand uniform and pay for the printing of “NZL” on the back of the competition T-shirts (collared, or non-collared). All players must also have their name printed on the back. There will be no official NZ Team representative logo or fern printed on this T-shirt.

7. Adherence to the Uniform Policy
7.1.1 Any breach of this policy will be taken seriously, and the individual will face sanctions as determined by TTNZ according to the Policy 19: Complaints, Disciplinary, Disputes and Appeals Policy.
