Inaugural TTNZ Top 8 Tournament Recap


The inaugural TTNZ Top 8 Tournament came to an exciting conclusion over the weekend at the Waitemata Table Tennis Stadium in Auckland. This premier invitational event brought together New Zealand’s top-ranked players across six singles categories, providing a unique round-robin format where each athlete faced all of their peers. The structure maximised match exposure, supported athlete development, and provided play at the highest level.
Players From Across New Zealand
The strength of the field reflected the depth of talent nationwide, with invited athletes representing associations from Auckland, North Shore, Waitemata, Canterbury, Manawatu, Nelson, Marlborough, and Waikato.
Champions Crowned
The competition delivered high-quality matches and some standout performances:
Men’s Singles: Jet Lin displayed consistency and composure throughout the weekend to secure the men’s title, holding off strong challenges from Eli Ho and Alfred Dela-Pena.
Women’s Singles: Hannah Li claimed the women’s title ahead of Ayumi Moriyama-Picard and Carrie Guo.
U15 Boys’ Singles: Oscar Du claimed gold, with Lucas Alexandre and Victor Li rounding out the top three.
U19 Boys’ Singles: Joshua Lu emerged as champion, followed by Gordon Lee and Oscar Jiang.
U15 Girls’ Singles: Katie Chen triumphed, with Bessie Li in second place and Grace Looi in third.
U19 Girls’ Singles: Angel Han earned the title, ahead of Anya Chen and Kiki Su.
With a prize pool of $3,900, the top three athletes in each event received recognition and reward, alongside TTNZ ranking points.
Prize Presentation
The inaugural edition of this elite event was made even more special with TTNZ Board member and Olympian Barry Griffiths presenting the prizes to the winners. His involvement highlighted both the prestige of the occasion and TTNZ’s commitment to recognising and supporting excellence at all levels of the game.
