TTNZ supports coaches at every stage, from first-time volunteers to those guiding elite athletes. Our pathway provides the right knowledge, tools, and internationally recognised qualifications to help you grow in your coaching journey.

Activator Courses – Getting Started with Coaching

Short, practical courses designed for volunteers, teachers, and new coaches delivering TTNZ’s community programmes.

  • TT Kidz Activator – Prepares coaches to run TT Kidz, TTNZ’s 8-week programme for children aged 6–11. Coaches learn how to deliver fun, structured sessions that build coordination, teamwork, and basic table tennis skills.
  • Serve, Spin, Smash! Activator – Equips coaches to deliver Serve, Spin, Smash!, an 8-week Para table tennis programme for disabled people of all ages and abilities. Coaches learn inclusive practices, use of adapted equipment, and how to create a welcoming environment.
Club Coach Course (Nationally recognised TTNZ Club Coach Certification)

Recommended for school teachers, community leaders, and club/association volunteers working with beginner to intermediate players.

Course content:

  • Role of a coach, legal responsibilities, and safety
  • Children’s learning stages and lesson planning
  • Core techniques (grip, ready position, strokes, footwork, serving)
  • Fun activities, games, and basic competition formats
ITTF-PTT Level 1 Coaching Course (Internationally recognised for beginner competitive level coaching)

Ideal for Club Coaches and transitioning athletes aiming to work with beginner and competitive level club and association level players. 

Course content:

  • Junior training guidelines, basic sport science
  • Tournament structure and umpiring
  • Para table tennis: classification, accessibility, terminology, and tactics
  • Intermediate techniques: blocking, flicking, counter-drives, multiball
ITTF Level 2 Coaching Course (Internationally recognised Level 2 Coaching Certification)

The ITTF Level 2 Coaching Course is designed to deepen the knowledge and skillset of coaches who already hold Level 1 certification. Ideal for coaches working with competitive players and aiming to support performance at the national and international level.

Course content:

  • Advanced technique and tactical development
  • Physical conditioning and footwork systems
  • Psychological preparation and athlete motivation
  • Performance planning and match analysis
  • Practical coaching sessions and formal assessments
