TTNZ is committed to supporting the development of aspiring coaches through meaningful, hands-on learning experiences alongside our National Coaches. From time to time, opportunities become available for passionate and motivated individuals to be involved in regional and national camps. These experiences offer coaches the chance to work with national and regional level players, including squad members, while learning within a performance environment. It’s an opportunity to grow your coaching skills, gain valuable experience, and contribute to the ongoing development of table tennis in New Zealand.
Position Overview
TTNZ invites expressions of interest from coaches who are passionate about developing athletes and committed to their own personal growth as coaches. Coaches selected will work under the guidance of national and international coaches to deliver successful regional and national development-level training camps. Key camps throughout the season where TTNZ offers coach development opportunities include Regional Training Camps, NZ National Hopes Week & Challenge, the South Island Para Training Camp, and National Para Development Camps.
These opportunities provide hands-on involvement across the technical, tactical, physical, and psychological aspects of performance, while working closely with National Coaches and engaging in ongoing mentorship and professional development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the delivery of regional and national development training camps.
- Work alongside National and International Coaches in the planning and delivery of training sessions.
- Assist with the implementation of athlete development plans and session objectives.
- Support the development of athletes across technical, tactical, physical, and psychological areas.
- Contribute to positive, inclusive, and athlete-centred training environments.
- Assist with athlete well-being and pastoral care as required.
- Take part in pre-camp planning, coach mentorship, and feedback processes.
- Engage in ongoing professional development aligned with TTNZ coaching pathways and standards.
Key Competencies
Successful applicants will demonstrate:
- Coaching experience with developing or competitive athletes, or a strong aspiration to coach in performance environments.
- Sound technical and tactical knowledge of table tennis, with a willingness to continue learning.
- An understanding of athlete development principles and structured training environments.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a coaching team.
- A player-centred approach, with a strong focus on athlete well-being and positive training environments.
- Adaptability and openness to feedback in dynamic coaching settings.
- Professional conduct and alignment with TTNZ values and coaching standards.
- Motivation to engage in ongoing coach education, mentorship, and professional development.
Requirements
Applicants should:
- Hold a current TTNZ or ITTF club coach or ITTF PTT L1 coaching certification or equivalent.
- Be based in New Zealand or available to travel for regional and national camps.
- Have the availability to support selected training camps and related planning sessions throughout the season.
- Be willing to work collaboratively under the guidance of National and International Coaches.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to athlete development and positive training environments.
- Be open to mentorship, feedback, and ongoing coach development opportunities.
- Show good organisational and time-management skills.
- Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and alignment with TTNZ values.
- Be committed to continuous personal learning and growth within a performance-focused coaching pathway.
Time Commitments
- NZ Hopes Week & Challenge 15-18th Jan (4 full days)
- National Para Development Camp 1, 25-28th Jan (3.5 days, options for day sessions only)
- Regional Training Camps 16-17th May (2 days; Northern, Central, Southern)
- South Island Para Training Camp 1-2nd Aug
- National Para Development Camp 2, 7-9th Oct (3 days, options for day sessions only)

Remuneration
Coaches will be remunerated for services provided in accordance with TTNZ coaching rates, which will be detailed in the letter of engagement issued to appointed coaches.
