Regional Qualifier Purpose: 

The TTNZ Regional Qualifier 2 tournament forms part of the NZ Team Selection Criteria and Qualification System for NZ Team selections for the 2026 ITTF-Oceania Championships and the 2026 ITTF-Oceania Youth Championships.  

The top placed eligible player from this regional qualifier in the Under 15, Under 19 and Open Singles events will be offered a place directly to stage 2 of the respective event at the South Island Individual Championships in Dunedin 17th-19th April 2026.

8:00 - Stadium Open

9:00 - O50 and U11 singles qualifying groups + U19 Singles progressive knockout

11:00 - B Grade and U13 Singles qualifying groups

13:00 - U15 and Open singles progressive knock out

15:00 - All other second stage singles and doubles events to completion

Format of Play

Regional Qualifier Events:

Groups of 3 or 4 players with the top 2 players proceeding to knock out, with a progressive knock out from the quarter Final stage. All matches are best of 5 games, with the top 4 play-offs being best of 7 games for the Open singles and best of 5 for Under 15 and Under 19 singles. If the Open singles is a full round robin, then all matches will be best of 7 games.

Note: If entries in an event are less than 12, then the following format will apply:  

• 9-11 entries: Top 6 play progressive knock out, with all matches being best of 5 games.  

• 7-8 entries: Top 4 play progressive knock out, with all matches being best of 5 games.  

• 6 or less entries: a full round robin with all matches being best of 5 games. 

All Other Events:

All other singles events will have a round robin stage and knockout stage where applicable. All doubles events will be knockout.

There will be no late entries accepted under any circumstances. No payment = no entry accepted.

Withdrawal and Refund Process

No refund will be provided after the close of entry date. In the event of cancellation of certain events, a refund is limited to the value of the applicable entry fee paid, and no additional compensation will be payable.

Entry Conditions

All players entering the tournament will be deemed to have read and accepted the Entry Conditions under which the tournament and the events are to be conducted. This tournament is eligible for Ranking points.

Eligibility to Enter Regional Qualifying Events  

  1. Players must be a member of an association affiliated with Table Tennis New Zealand (TTNZ). 
  2. Players may play in both the Under 15 and Under 19 or Under 19 and Open singles (a player cannot play Under 15 and Open). Players may play in a maximum of 2 regional qualifying categories, but the players must be aware this would be a very demanding schedule.  
  3. Eligibility for Under-age events is determined by age as at the 31st December 2025.   
  4. Proof of age may be required. 

Eligibility to claim qualifier spot

Any player who is a member of a TTNZ-affiliated association can compete in this tournament. However, to claim the qualifier spot(s), players must meet the following ‘Eligible Player’ criteria. 

Eligible Player:  

  1. A player born in New Zealand and holds a New Zealand passport. 

           OR 

     2.  A player who holds a New Zealand passport who has served their stand-down period on the ITTF Eligibility             Register. 

An Ineligible Player is:  

  1. A player not born in New Zealand. 

  1. A player not born in New Zealand, and on the ITTF eligibility register but has not completed their stand-down period. 

  1. Any player under 13 years of age as at the 31st December 2025 is NOT eligible for open qualifier spots. 

Qualifier Spots Confirmation: 

TTNZ will email the highest placed eligible qualified players from the Open Men & Women and the Under 15 and Under 19 boy’s and girl’s singles events within 72h after the tournament concluding. The players must confirm their acceptance of their qualifier spot to stage 2 of the TTNZ Qualification tournament within 7 days.  

In the case where ineligible players take all top 8 places at the TTNZ regional qualifier 2, extra matches may need to be played to determine the highest placed eligible player(s). 

Eligibility to enter all other events

  1. B Grade is open to players as follows:
  • Male Players ranked 26 or below
  • Female players ranked 11 or below

     2. Junior Novice Singles is open to players as follows:

  • Players competing in their first or second TTNZ ranked tournament.

     3. Eligibility for Over-aged events is determined by age as at 31st December 2026.

     4. Eligibility for Under-aged events is determined by age as at 31st December 2025.

     5. Players cannot play both B grade and U13 events as they have a schedule clash.

The TTNZ Ranking list as at the close of entry date will be used to grade eligibility. 

 

 

Seedings, Draws and Results

 

Seedings and draws will be constructed using the current TTNZ Ranking lists at the close of entry. There will be no separation by association for the qualifying events.

Regulations

The tournament will be conducted in accordance with the TTNZ National Tournament Regulations and the current ITTF Laws and Regulations of Table Tennis. The Referee’s decisions are final.

Medals & Prizes

Gold and silver medals will be awarded to the winners and runners-up in each regional qualifying category. Certificates will be awarded to the Winners and runner-up/s of all other events.

Referees: TBC.
Deputy Referees: TBC.
Umpires: Players will be required to umpire in all their group matches. Umpiring requirements for knockout matches will be communicated on the day.

Clothing:
No white clothing or singlets shall be worn. Athletes may wear any clothing that complies with ITTF Regulations.

Catering

Onsite café offering simple refreshments such as sandwiches, toasted sandwiches, and light snacks

Racket Control

All rackets must comply with ITTF Regulations. Racket control testing may be conducted at any time without prior warning.
