We are excited to reveal the new TOPX is a premier invitational table tennis event from TTNZ featuring New Zealand’s top-ranked athletes. The event is designed to deliver a high-performance competition environment that closely reflects international standards, providing athletes with meaningful match exposure and benchmarking opportunities.
Participation is by invitation only, with athletes selected based on established eligibility and performance criteria.

Purpose and Significance
TOPX plays a key role within the national high-performance pathway providing:
- A benchmark competition for New Zealand top-ranked athletes
- A platform to support selection for the 2027 National Squads
- High-quality match experience aligned with international competition standards
For the 2026 edition only, the event will also incorporate a Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Trial, which forms part of the New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC) nomination process.

Competition Format
TOPX events will be conducted in a full round-robin format. Each athlete will compete against all other athletes within their category, resulting in a minimum of seven matches per athlete.
This format maximises competitive opportunities and supports athlete development through consistent, high-quality match play.
Eligibility and Selection
Athletes will be invited in accordance with the TOPX eligibility and selection criteria. Key principles include:
- A maximum of eight athletes per event category and gender
- Selection based on ITTF World Rankings and TTNZ Merit Lists
- Compliance with International Table Tennis Federation eligibility requirements
- Timely confirmation of participation following invitation
These criteria ensure a competitive field comprising the top-ranked athletes in New Zealand.
